ChipPeek 2.1 documentation
DISTRIBUTION
This software is FreeWare !
PURPOSE
You can see your chip ram contents as a graphics screen, like any other
mempeek. I coded my own, because there were not AGA mempeek when I bought my
AMIGA 1200. (93')
But now it is 96'. See the history from 2.0 below for improvements.
SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
Any AMIGA with min. Kickstart 2.0 and the disk based commodities.library.
Only 15 Khz PAL supported.
It works fine on AGA machines too.
It's not a bad thing to own some chip ram (.5/1/1.5/2Mb)...
INSTALLATION
Simply start from WB or CLI. Tooltypes are handled by WB only, no CLI
arguments.
USAGE
Start peeking - CX_POPKEY (def. <contorl f2>) or both mousebuttons
Quit peeking - CX_POPKEY (def. <control f2>) or both mousebuttons
Vertical scroll - move your mouse up/down
Quick vert. scr. - move your mouse up/down + right mousebutton
Horizontal scroll - press <left shift> AND move your mouse right/left.
I coded this two direction move 'cause practical reason:
I didn't like mempeek at that I couldn't set the right
memposition fast. But with this method you can go fast
through the mem (there are many dirty mouses...), and
when you want to go only to left or right press shift.)
Quick hor. scr. - the above + right mousebutton
Switch resolution - press left mousebutton (lores/hires/superhires)
Set Modulo - press <left alt> AND move your mouse left/right
Set mark - press <shift 1> or <shift 2> or <shift 3>
Jump to mark - press <1> or <2> or <3>
Set to zero - press <z> to zero picaddress and modulo
- press <shift z> to zero picaddress only
- press <lalt z> to zero modulo only
Remove - press <r> when you are peeking
What numbers can you see:
xxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxx
address the leftmost highlighted word in bits modulo
See tooltypes below from the 2.0 features.
HISTORY
1.0 - First public release.
1.9 - Second public release. It is prerelease of 2.0
- totally reworked
- more system friendly
- now it is commodity, all input handled by commodities.library
- hot key
- quick searches
- setmarks
2.0 - Third public release.
- tooltypes (WB)
- CX_POPKEY (def.: control lalt p)
- CX_POPUP (YES or NO)
- PIC1 (pic address in hex, ie.: 1fe00)
- MOD1 (modulo in hex, ie.: 28)
- RES1=0 (lores)
1 (hires)
2 (shires)
- PIC2,MOD2,RES2, PIC3,MOD3,RES3 like above
- zero key (z) for pic address, modulo or both
- 16 bit zoom has been redone
- peek start with both mousebuttons
2.1 - 4th public release. Small update.
- nice MWB and 4 color icons by Rendall
- stack is set to 2048, cos it's enough
- BMB tooltype added -> peek start with both buttons is optional!
- most of the copper routines now is handled by the OS
- it should work correctly with especially multisync monitors
(sometimes the sync went away while peeking)
- you can enable or disable the peek start via comm. Exchange
- def. hotkey changed to <control f2>
FUTURE
x.x will have:
- file peek !!! Suggestion by EFT.
- dynamic 16 bit zoom refresh
- perhaps input will be handled by intuition, or a totally systemless method
for lowmem people
- fastram peek
- if anybody want free move (to up/down/right/left) at the same time,
it will be switchable
